Special Issue Call for Papers:

Aims and scope

UAVs will play a significant role in the Internet-of-Everything (IoE) paradigm as it comes equipped with sensors, cameras, femtocells, etc. Recent emerging telecommunication domains which involve IoE, sensor networks and 5G technologies are thus attracting researchers to focus more on the deployment, and coverage of UAVs. With the help of 5G based infrastructure, many applications of UAVs in IoE will be realized. However, new communication protocols and challenges will be evolved as well.

In this special issue, we aim to explore the up to date ongoing research on UAVs in smart communities. Potential topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Cloud-based IoE for U2S applications
  • Fog/Edge computing and technologies for U2S communications
  • 5G Communication protocols for U2S
  • Localization, navigation, and dynamic path planning of U2S
  • Resource management for U2S
  • Machine learning and AI algorithms for U2S
  • Extended mobile coverage and enablers for U2S
  • UAV placement in U2S low energy applications
  • Use cases enabled by UAVs in smart environments
  • Security in U2S-based communications
  • Blockchain in U2S paradigms

Submission instructions

The Journal’s submission system will be open for submissions to our Special Issue from 15 03 2019. When submitting your manuscript please select the article type “VSI: U2S”. Please submit your manuscript before 15 07 2019.

All submissions deemed suitable to be sent for peer review will be reviewed by at least two independent reviewers. Once your manuscript is accepted, it will go into production, and will be simultaneously published in the current regular issue and pulled into the online Special Issue. Articles from this Special Issue will appear in different regular issues of the journal, though they will be clearly marked and branded as Special Issue articles.
