Information for the Special Issue

Special Issue Call for Papers:

Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) are engineered systems that enable seamless integration of the computation and physical objects in our daily lives and have the potential to fundamentally transform the way people interact with the physical world. In recent years, the fast development of CPS has driven significant innovations in a large range of application domains ranging from smart manufacturing, smart home and communities, autonomous driving, smart and personalized healthcare, building design, architecture, etc. The design and management of CPS pose significant challenges in multiple aspects of system sustainability, including energy efficiency, natural resources preservation, and use of multiple energy sources as needed in computing devices and infrastructure. The research on CPSs addresses the close interactions between the cyber computational components and the physical components spanning from mechanical components, energy systems, human activities, to surrounding environment. CPS is expected to play a major role in the development of next-generation smart energy systems and data centers. Innovative computational methodologies such as green and energy efficient cyber-physical system design have become critical to enable the sustainable development of such systems. These technologies can be used to tackle various sustainability challenges, such as the reduction of energy induced from the large-scale data center computing infrastructures, the improvement of computational efficiency in smart energy systems and connected vehicle systems, and the exploration of the renewable energy resources to mitigate classical energy usages. To build optimal and reliable CPS, there is a great need for computational intelligence techniques such as large-scale analytical modeling, complex stochastic optimization, formal methods and verification, and real-time intelligent systems control.

This special issue aims to provide a platform for the researchers, academia, and industry to present their novel solutions, applications, tools, software, hardware, and algorithms designed for addressing various sustainability challenges in CPS. Submission Details:

General information and instructions for submitting papers to SUSCOM can be found at the journal website: Please see the “Guide for Authors” and “Submit Your Paper” links. When submitting a paper to this special issue, please make sure to select the “Special Issue: SUSCOMCPS” option when prompted for “Select Article Type” during the submission process.

All submissions must be original and may not be under review by another publication. A submission based on one or more papers that appeared elsewhere has to comprise major value-added extensions over what appeared previously (at least 30% new material). Authors are requested to clearly identify prior submissions/papers and attach to the submitted paper their relevant, previously published articles with a summary explanation documenting the enhancements made in the journal submission. All submitted papers will be peer reviewed using the normal standards of SUSCOM. By submitting a paper to this issue, the authors agree to referee at least one paper if requested by SUSCOM editors.
