In recent years, the design and fabrication of microelectronics devices with extremely small components is increasing at an unprecedented rate. Intelligent Embedded Systems are the new product of the significant development of new generation Information and Communication Technologies [ICT] in microelectronics domain. The recent embedded system innovations like wearable devices, autonomous industrial robots, Internet of Things, Internet of vehicles tends to create societal as well as economic impacts on smart cities. Most of intelligent systems employed in smart cities will rely on embedded systems to integrate various systems under a common architecture. Due to the widespread availability of sensors, actuators and wireless networking infrastructures, Intelligent Embedded Systems play a crucial role in key smart city applications like automation, transportation, healthcare, and so on.
With the implementation of Artificial Intelligence [AI] techniques like deep learning, machine learning and cognitive computing, Embedded Systems can offer various kind of services for both people and things. For instance, Intelligent embedded systems will provide services such as Smart transportation and parking, Smart homes, Intelligent Surveillance Systems, Smart Grids, Weather monitoring, Healthcare and E-Learning. Future Embedded Systems will not only be intelligent but also provide a sustainable and autonomous Nano scale devices with a reduced cost. As the communication technologies like IoT, Cyber Physical Systems [CPS] are rapidly advancing in the smart city context, the intelligent embedded systems are much less advanced. This special issue aims to contribute the state-of-the-art intelligent embedded systems architecture, processing to ensure reliability, safety, and security in the emerging communication and networking models employed in smart city applications.
This special issue welcomes the qualitative and quantitative research on the intelligent embedded systems architectures and applications that may revolutionize the existing smart city models and applications. Potential authors are invited to submit their state-of-the-art research works in microelectronics and intelligent embedded systems.
