Special Issue Call for Papers:

Cyber-Physical System (CPS) is an interdisciplinary research field that features systematic integration of computation, communication, and control of physical processes. It is characterized by the deep complex intertwining process among the embedded cyber components for computation and control and the dynamic physical components that involve mechanical components, human activities and surrounding environment. Typical applications of CPS include automotive and transportation systems, robotic systems, civil infrastructure, healthcare, smart energy systems, and etc. CPS plays an indispensable role in the development of next-generation smart energy systems. To enable the sustainable development of such systems, innovative technologies of green and energy-efficient design for CPS, such as reducing energy consumption of computing infrastructures, improving computational efficiency in smart energy systems, and exploring renewable energy resources to mitigate classical energy usages, should be investigated.

The aim of this special issue is to gather high-quality research papers in the area of holistic technologies for addressing various sustainability challenges in CPS. Topics of interest for this special issue include, but are not limited to, the following CPS-relevant topics: 

  • Sustainability modelling, evaluation, simulation, and tools for CPS 
  • Architectural frameworks and design methodologies for sustainable CPS 
  • Embedded systems and software designed for sustainable CPS 
  • Software engineering methodologies for sustainable CPS 
  • Data analytics and machine learning in sustainable CPS 
  • Heuristic algorithms and optimizations for sustainable CPS 
  • Resource managements in sustainable CPS 
  • Cloud-fog-edge computing for sustainable IoT and CPS 
  • Human-in-the-loop control and social computing for sustainable CPS 
  • Sustainable CPS with renewable energy integration
  • Sustainable and scalable design of CPS applications​

The papers must be written in English and describe original research neither published nor currently under review in any other journal or conference.
