Design of Embedded Software and Systems (SI:ICESS19)

The advancement of embedded software and systems, such as intelligent vehicles, industrial robots, wearable devices, and Internet-of-Things, has great societal and economic impacts. It is of utmost importance to ensure the safety, efficiency, and security of their design and implementation. With recent advances towards a high degree of autonomy in such systems, new challenges in their design, implementation, optimization and validation have emerged, particularly in domains such as Internet-of-Things, embedded security and autonomous software systems. This special issue aims to present a collection of papers on the following representative topics in the context of design of such embedded software and systems:

Systems, Models & Algorithms

• Real-Time, Mixed-Criticality and Thermal Aware Middleware
• Distributed, Fault Tolerant and Trusted Software and System Architectures
• Custom Computing Architectures (Heterogeneous, Multi-core, Reconfigurable)

Design Methodology & Tools

• Design Methodologies Considering both Security and Safety
• Model-based Design, Verification and Validation
• Tools for Performance Evaluation, Compilation and Debugging

Emerging Embedded Applications and Interdisciplinary Topics

• Assured Autonomy for Safety-Critical Cyber-Physical Systems
• Safety of Machine Learning for Embedded Systems
• Internet-of-Things Security

All original manuscripts that fit within the broad scope of design of embedded software and systems are welcome. Authors of papers presented at ICESS 2019 are especially encouraged to submit to this SI.

General information for submitting papers to JSA can be found at https://www.journals.elsevier.com/journal-of-systems-architecture (please note the “Guide for Authors” link). Submissions to this Special Issue (SI) should be made using Elsevier’s editorial system at the journal website (https://www.evise.com/profile/api/navigate/JSA), under the “Submit Your Paper” link. Please select the “SI:ICESS19” option as the type of the paper during the submission process.

JSA has adopted the Virtual Special Issues model to speed up the publication process, where accepted SI papers are queued along with regular papers to be published in an upcoming regular issue, but in a separate section marked as SI papers. Therefore, authors are encouraged to submit papers early, and need not wait until the submission deadline.
