Special Issue Call for Papers:
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has become very prominent in the area of Computers and Electrical Engineering (CEE) all across the world. The use of ICT in CEE devices such as tablets and smart-phones helps end-users to provide a reliable way to use their services. The worldwide connectivity of CEE devices using ICT enhances and has expanded the users’ experience. However, the increasing use of ICT in CEE has led to the risk of various attack vectors and unauthorized access to consumers’ personal information. The opportunity for attackers is directly proportional to the volume of information stored in CEE devices. ICT has opened up a number of privacy and security issues in CEE, such as consumer information exposure, unauthorized software updates, and insecure communication, which have become key research challenges.
The application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to information security in CEE is feasible and sound. The currently available AI techniques for information security in CEE are still in the challenging phase, such as collecting and processing large amounts of data from diverse CEE devices. The design and development of AI techniques for CEE security make rapid innovations possible. It can deliver efficient AI-based solutions to handle the large amount of CEE data with limited computational capacity.
This special issue focuses on the design and development of innovative AI principles and methods for CEE security. We invite technical articles that have a broad scope and general interest to an engineering audience. The topics of interest include the following:
- Context-aware information security in CEE
- Innovative deep learning paradigms for CEE security
- Prevention of consumer information exposure using AI
- Large-scale graph paradigms for information analysis
- Extraction and analysis of CEE device data for decision support and optimization
- Trusted update mechanisms for CEE
- Reinforcement learning for large-scale data analysis
- Big data analysis using AI in the CEE industry
- AI for a secure Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem
- Adversary profiling using intelligent and automated methods
- Detection of cyber threats using AI
- Privacy and security issues in CEE Software and Hardware Systems
- Smartphone and mobile device security
Submission Procedure:
Research articles must not have been published or submitted for publication elsewhere. All articles will be peer reviewed and accepted based on quality, originality, novelty, and relevance to the special issue theme. Before submission authors should refer to the journal\’s Author Guidelines, which is available at: http://www.elsevier.com/wps/find/journaldescription.cws_home/367/authorinstructions.

Guest Editors’ Short Bios.
James J. (Jong Hyuk) Park
Dr. James J. (Jong Hyuk) Park received Ph.D. degrees in Graduate School of Information Security from Korea University, Korea and Graduate School of Human Sciences from Waseda University, Japan. From December, 2002 to July, 2007, Dr. Park had been a research scientist of R&D Institute, Hanwha S&C Co., Ltd., Korea. From September, 2007 to August, 2009, He had been a professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Kyungnam University, Korea. He is now a professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Department of Interdisciplinary Bio IT Materials, Seoul National University of Science and Technology (SeoulTech), Korea. Dr. Park has published about 300 research papers in international journals and conferences. He has been serving as chair, program committee, or organizing committee chair for many international conferences and workshops. He is a steering chair of international conferences – MUE, FutureTech, CSA, CUTE, UCAWSN, World IT Congress-Jeju. He is editor-in-chief of Human-centric Computing and Information Sciences (HCIS) by Springer, The Journal of Information Processing Systems (JIPS) by KIPS, and Journal of Convergence (JoC) by KIPS CSWRG. He is Associate Editor / Editor of 14 international journals including JoS, JNCA, SCN, CJ, and so on. In addition, he has been serving as a Guest Editor for international journals by some publishers: Springer, Elsevier, John Wiley, OxfordUniv. press, Emerald, Inderscience, MDPI. He got the best paper awards from ISA-08 and ITCS-11 conferences and the outstanding leadership awards from IEEE HPCC-09, ICA3PP-10, IEE ISPA-11, PDCAT-11, IEEE AINA-15. Furthermore, he got the outstanding research awards from the SeoulTech, 2014. His research interests include IoT, Human-centric Ubiquitous Computing, Information Security, Digital Forensics, Vehicular Cloud Computing, Multimedia Computing, etc. He is a member of the IEEE, IEEE Computer Society, KIPS, and KMMS.

Hong Shen
Hong Shen is a specially-appointed endowed professor in SunYat-senUniversity, and also a tenured Professor of Computer Science in the University of Adelaide, Australia. He received the B.Eng. degree from Beijing University of Science and Technology, M.Eng. degree from University of Science and Technology of China, Ph.Lic. and Ph.D. degrees from Abo Akademi University, Finland, all in Computer Science. He was Professor and Chair of the Computer Networks Laboratory in Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) during 2001-2006, and Professor of Compute Science at Griffith University, Australia, where he taught 9 years since 1992. With main research interests in parallel and distributed computing, algorithms, data mining, privacy preserving computing and high performance networks, he has led numerous research centers and projects in different countries. He has published 300+ papers including over 100 papers in international journals such as a variety of IEEE and ACM transactions. Prof. Shen received many honors, awards, professorial and executive appointments, and served on different roles in professional societies, journal editorial boards and conference organizations.

Muhammad K. Khan
Dr. Muhammad Khurram Khan is currently working as a Full Professor at the Center of Excellence in Information Assurance (CoEIA), KingSaudUniversity, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He is one of the founding members of CoEIA and has served as the Manager R&D from March 2009 to March 2012. He developed and successfully managed the research program of CoEIA, which transformed the center as one of the best centers of research excellence in Saudi Arabia as well as in the region. Prof. Khurram is the Editor-in-Chief of a well-esteemed international journal \’Telecommunication Systems\’ published by Springer-Verlag (since 1993) with an impact factor of 1.542 (JCR 2017). He is the Founding Editor of \’Bahria University Journal of Information & Communication Technology (BUJICT)\’. Furthermore, he is the full-time Editor/Associate Editor of several international journals/magazines, including IEEE Communications Surveys & Tutorials, IEEE Communications Magazine, Journal of Network & Computer Applications (Elsevier), IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics, IEEE Access, Security & Communication Networks, IEEE Consumer Electronics Magazine, Journal of Medical Systems (Springer), PLOS ONE, Computers & Electrical Engineering (Elsevier), IET Wireless Sensor Systems, Electronic Commerce Research (Springer), Journal of Computing & Informatics, Journal of Information Hiding and Multimedia Signal Processing (JIHMSP), International Journal of Biometrics (Inderscience), etc. Prof. Khurram has published over 325 research papers in the journals and conferences of international repute. In addition, he is an inventor of 10 US/PCT patents. He has edited 7 books/proceedings published by Springer-Verlag and IEEE. He has secured several national and international research grants in the domain of information security. His research areas of interest are Cybersecurity, digital authentication, biometrics, multimedia security, and technological innovation management. Prof. Khurram has played a leading role in developing \’BS Cybersecurity Degree Program\’ and \’Higher Diploma in Cybersecurity\’ at King Saud University. He is a fellow of the IET (UK), fellow of the BCS (UK), fellow of the FTRA (Korea), senior member of the IEEE (USA), senior member of the IACSIT (Singapore), member of the IEEE Consumer Electronics Society, member of the IEEE Communications Society, member of the IEEE Technical Committee on Security & Privacy, member of the IEEE IoT Community, member of the IEEE Smart Cities Community, and member of the IEEE Cybersecurity Community. He is also the Vice Chair of IEEE Communications Society Saudi Chapter.
