Digital technology plays a vital role in humans’ day-to-day activity. It has made the system simple and more powerful and plays its major role in social networks, communication, and digital transaction, etc. The rapid development in digital technology also has downsides in the integrity of data, data privacy, and confidentiality. There has been a need for security, privacy, and reliability in digital technology. Pattern recognition is a computerized recognition that regulates the data in digital technology and plays a vital role in the digital world. A pattern can either be seen physically or it can be observed mathematically by applying algorithms. The pattern recognition techniques have been categorized as statistical techniques, structural techniques, template matching, neural network approach, fuzzy model, and hybrid models. A common platform is always in need to share the views of different researchers relating to the complicated facets of pattern recognition in the areas of security, privacy, and reliability in digital technology.

This special issue explores novel concepts and practices with a long-term goal of fully-automated lifestyle fostered by the technological advances of pattern recognition in a wide spectrum of applications. We invite authors from both industry and academia to submit original research and review articles that cover the security, privacy, and reliability in digital technology using the pattern recognition techniques.

Dr. Rajesh Manoharan is a research associate in Raga Academic Solutions, Chennai, India. He is an associate editor of IET Nanobiotechnology, 3D-Research (Springer) and Editor of Mathematical and Computational Forestry, and Natural-Resource Sciences (MCFNS), He has published over 90 papers in international refereed journals like IEEE, Springer, and Elsevier. He served as a reviewer for Springer, Inderscience, and Elsevier journals. He has published many research articles in refereed journals and IEEE conferences. He has been the general chair at several conferences. He has worked as PC members for many conferences conducted in India and abroad and also has successfully organized some special issues in highly index journals. His main research interests include wireless sensor networks, multimedia, IoT, blockchain techniques, e-health technologies, and soft computing techniques.

Dr. Sujatha Krishnamoorthy is an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science, Kean Wenzhou University, China, and an active member of CSI with 19 years of teaching experience. Her specialization is digital image processing with image fusion. She has published over 60 papers in international refereed journals like Springer and Elsevier. She has delivered several guest lectures, seminars, and chaired a session for various Conferences. She is serving as a reviewer and editorial board member of many reputed Journals and acted as session chair and technical program committee member of national conferences and international conferences. She has received the best researcher award during the academic year 2017-2018, awarded by Sri Krishna College of Engineering, Coimbatore, India.

Dr. Changjiang Zhang received his PhD degree in Computer Science from the University of Kentucky, USA. Dr. Zhang had been an instructor at Dong Hua University from 1986-1992. He has 15+ years experiences in IT industry. He had worked as a senior engineer in R&D department at MINDRAY Medical International Co., Ltd, HUAWEI Technologies, etc. He had also worked as a senior software developer in financial sector in Chicago, USA for seven years. He was working an assistant professor in Computer Science Department at Wenzhou-Kean University and contributed for the research.

Dr. Sitharthan Ramachandran is an assistant professor in the School of Electrical Engineering, Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore, Tamilnadu, India. He has successfully completed a research funded project as a principal investigator under the ECRA scheme SERB-DST, Government of India. He served as a reviewer for Springer, Sage, and Elsevier journals. He has published research articles in refereed journals, IEEE conferences and granted 1 patent. His research includes; renewable energy systems, Artificial Intelligence-based control methodology, FACTS devices, soft computing techniques and piezoelectric materials. He is currently focusing his research in that area of application of soft computing techniques for electrical power systems.
