The University of Salamanca is a public university based in the community of Castile and León in Madrid, Spain. The university is known as one of the oldest European universities and is the world's third oldest university still in continuous operation.

The university currently offers over 60 undergraduate degrees and over 20 double degrees in diverse fields of study, including sciences, arts and humanities, health sciences, social and legal sciences, and engineering and architecture. PhD programs in these fields are also available to students. The university has gained recognition as a center for the study of humanities as well as for its courses in the languages, law, and economics. It offers a variety of language courses, including Spanish courses for foreigners and over 10 different language courses at multiple levels.

Aside from traditional degree programs, the University of Salamanca also offers highly specialized training through conferences and symposia. The University of Salamanca also participates in the Interuniversity Experience Program, which was created to encourage mature students (over 55 years of age) who seek educational opportunities. All universities in the community of Castile and León participate in this initiative.

The University of Salamanca was founded in 1218 by King Alfonso IX of Leon, who wanted to have an institute of higher studies at his kingdom. The university gained prestige early into its existence, attracting students from Spain, Europe and the United States. Throughout the 1800s and 1900s, the university underwent major changes in its academic structure and maintained stable enrollment figures. Today, the University of Salamanca comprises 26 faculties and schools, spread over eight administrative and teaching campuses in Salamanca, Ávila, Zamora, and Béjar.

The university has also become known for its highly diverse student body. A large portion of the university's students come from outside Castile and Leon, and the University of Salamanca hosts one of the highest populations of Erasmus+ students in Europe.

Aside from its diverse student population, the University of Salamanca has been recognized for its research. The university has established several research institutes dedicated to fields such as functional biology and genomics, biomedical research, medieval and renaissance studies, community integration, and agrarian research. The university is also home to various research centers and over 100 research groups.

To promote the importance of applied research and innovation, the University of Salamanca has also established a Science Park at one of its Salamanca campuses. This Science Park offers laboratories and office space for spin-off companies and currently serves as headquarters for various companies in the technology sector.
