Located in Nanjing, Jiangsu province is Southeast University, China, a national key university and one of the oldest institutions of higher education in the country. It was founded as the Sanjiang Normal College in 1902 and underwent 10 evolutions before it became Southeast University in May 1988. In April 2000, the institution had another reorganization when it absorbed the Nanjing College of Communications, the Nanjing Railway Medical College, and the Nanjing Geological School. The university, which is under the administration of the Ministry of Education of China, has been part of national enterprises called Project 985 and Project 211. It is also a Double First Class University.

Southeast University, China, has 30 schools, departments, and colleges that are distributed across three campuses: Jiulonghu, Sipailou, and Dingjiaqiao. Some of these are the School of Marxism, the Chien-Shiung Wu College, the School of Biological Science & Medical Engineering, the School of Automation, and the School of Arts. These offer more than 80 undergraduate degree programs, 48 master’s degree programs, and 34 doctoral programs. Among these, the university is most renowned for its civil engineering course. It is also well-regarded for its architecture, electronics, energy and environment, and transportation technology courses.

It holds over four million volumes of books, more than 4,000 periodicals in Chinese and foreign languages, two million electronic books and periodicals, and nine million e-dissertations.
