It attained university status in 2005 and was mandated by the government to create a private university for adult learners, SIM University (UniSIM), which eventually became Singapore University of Social Sciences, an autonomous university.

Today, the Singapore Institute of Management is part of the SIM Group Ltd., which comprises three educational units: SIM Professional Development, SIM Global Education, and Singapore (Cambodia) International Academy. It is considered among the leading universities in Singapore according to international ranking bodies.

Its first educational unit is SIM Global Education (SIM GE), which offers over 80 academic programs that provide diploma, undergraduate, and graduate degrees.
