The University of Jaén, or Universidad de Jaén in Spanish, is located in the autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain. Its main campus, the Las Lagunillas Campus, is nestled in the capital of Jaén and is home to the majority of facilities, including administration buildings, schools and colleges, student accommodations, sports centers, and others. Meanwhile, the Linares Scientific Technological Campus houses the university’s more sophisticated research facilities and training centers, especially those dedicated to the field of engineering.

As an academic institution, the University of Jaén offers a broad range of programs across all degree levels. Among these programs are courses administered by the faculties of health sciences, experimental sciences, social and legal sciences, humanities, social work, and more. For undergraduate studies, students can opt for a bachelor’s or a double bachelor's degree program. Joint programs are also available at master’s and Ph.D. levels. Meanwhile, international students can choose from the English-based courses including Master in Telecommunications Engineering; Master in Bilingual Teaching and Integrated Learning of Contents and Foreign Language; Professional Training and Language Teaching; Master's Degree in Compulsory Secondary Education and Baccalaureate Teaching, and others. International students are also entitled to scholarships and mobility grants.

The university houses numerous state-of-the-art research facilities and training centers. One of these facilities is the Center for Advanced Studies in Earth, Energy, and Environmental Sciences, a research center dedicated to the advancement and innovation of knowledge, especially in the subject of renewable energy. Another is the Center for Advanced Studies in Information and Communication Technologies, which not only helps promote and facilitate knowledge transfer but also offers technical support to further enhance the educational and research experience of all students.

Compared to other prestigious universities in Spain, the University of Jaén is fairly young. Its history started in 1992 when the university’s Technical-Academic Commission was founded. The following year, the university added the Management Commission and began taking the steps toward shaping the university into one of the leading research-focused academic institutions in the country.

The University of Jaén is one of the universities included in the Campus of International Excellence program that was launched by the national government of Spain in 2009. This program aims to improve the quality of teaching and research of the best universities in the country. As part of the program, the University of Jaén spearheaded one of the projects—the Campus of International Excellence in Cultural and Natural Heritage—that has been submitted to the Ministry of Education for approval.
