The Friedrich Schiller University Jena, also known simply as the University of Jena or Friedrich Schiller University (FSU), is a public research educational institution in Thuringia, Germany. It is considered as one of the 10 oldest universities in the country as it was established in 1558. The university is notable for producing several Nobel laureates, the most recent of which is Herbert Kroemer who won the prize for physics in 2000.

The university combines its traditional roots with a forward-looking mindset. Today, it is operating on an international and interdisciplinary basis, with many of its students having international backgrounds.
