The Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II (University of Naples Federico II) is the world’s oldest public nonsectarian university. As well, it is one of the oldest learning, teaching, and research institutions that have been continuously operating since its creation. Founded in 1224, it was originally established to train administrative staff.

The university was founded by Emperor Frederick II of the Holy Roman Empire. Throughout its existence, it has helped in the development of influential figures with great contributions to their particular fields. Notable graduates and faculty include the theologian and philosopher Thomas Aquinas, the astronaut Luca Parmitano, and the mathematician Renato Caccioppoli. Moreover, there are three presidents of Italy who are University of Naples Federico II graduates.

Today, the university has three divisions that manage teaching services and research of 13 schools with 82 various departments. The three divisions are the (1) Division of Science and Technology, (2) Division of Social and Human Sciences, and the (3) Division of Life Sciences. Departments under these divisions and schools provide undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate programs. Course offerings range from Industrial Chemistry to Hospitality Management.

Moreover, the University of Naples Federico II values academia-industry partnerships. It is one of the leading academic institutions with a high level of industry collaboration in the country and abroad. There are four academies hosted by the university. They are the (1) Apple Developer Academy, (2) Cisco Academy, (3i) Digital Academy, and the (4) FS Mobility Academy.

This gives students, researchers, and faculty from all over the world the chance to collaborate on research projects and learn from each other. Its international course catalog includes those in the fields and areas of political science, medicine and surgery, data science, mathematical engineering, and precision livestock farming.

The university is also part of a consortium of organizations and universities that host the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Degrees (EMJMD). The EMJMD offers joint masters programs issued by at least two institutions from different countries. Multiple degree programs are also offered. The university takes part in courses, including Architecture, Landscape, and Archaeology, Dynamics of Cultural Landscapes and Heritage Management, and Food Innovation and Product Design.

Academic resources and support are also provided by university organizations. Access to infrastructures and facilities include its library system. University libraries are home to two million volumes of work. Also, it provides students with access to around 3,500 publications. Additionally, the university houses the Natural Science and Physics Museum Center, which is made up of six adjunct museums. These include the Museum of Paleontology, the Museum of Physics, and the Anthropology Museum.
