Facts About National Taiwan University of Science and Technology

The National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST), also popularly known as Taiwan Tech, is a prominent public technological academic institution located in Taipei. It was established in 1974, becoming the first university of its kind in the country. The university status extension was an answer to the high demand for highly trained managers and engineers in the country’s growing industries. Currently considered as one of the top 10 best institutes in science and technology in Asia, the university aims to become the leading educational institution offering technical and vocational programs in the country.

The university has five campuses, namely Keelung Campus, New Gongguan Campus, Tucheng Campus, Zhubei Campus, and Gongguan Campus. The latter is the main campus located in the Daan District of Taipei City, occupying around 10 hectares of land.

Taiwan Tech offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree programs in various fields of study. Additionally, Taiwan Tech’s undergraduate division offers two-year, four-year, and continuing education programs. Two-year programs accept students from technical junior colleges while the four-year programs accept senior high school graduates. On the other hand, a limited number of departments are offering continuing education courses to those who are currently employed. They can take courses in Industrial Management, Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Construction Engineering, and Applied Foreign Languages.

Degree programs are available in Taiwan Tech’s different departments and graduate institutes. These are organized into colleges, namely the (1) College of Applied Sciences, (2) College of Design, (3) College of Engineering, (4) College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, (5) College of Intellectual Property Studies, (6) College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, and (7) School of Management.

Taiwan Tech continues to develop its award-winning courses and programs. They are noted for their quality of education, especially in the field of Engineering and Technology, which is recognized in Asia and around the world. Furthermore, their School of Management is also considered as one of the best in the country. Moreover, its College of Design is also making waves across different industries.

The university is likewise home to numerous research institutes and centers. Most of these bodies focus on science and applied science. However, they also focus on industry-university partnerships and international networking and cooperation. Some notable research centers are The Commatrix (Advanced Design Center), the Nanotechnology Engineering Center, and the Innovation and Creativity Center.

Meanwhile, NTUST’s Taiwan Building Technology Center is the only research center in the country, focusing on building-related concerns and issues. It studies the integration of arts, sciences, humanities, and technologies in designing, constructing, developing, and maintaining structures.

In addition, the Taiwan Tech library has been a valuable resource for teaching and research since 1975. It boasts thousands of materials from books to periodicals, which are available to students and faculty members. It also offers numerous digital resources, such as journal subscriptions and more.
