Facts About Asia University, Taiwan
Asia University, or AU, is a research university located in Taichung, Taiwan, home to the world-class Asia University’s Museum of Modern Art. The university was first established in 1999 as a preparatory office for what would eventually become an internationally renowned academic institution. In 2001, the Taichung Healthcare and Management University (THMU) came to be, laying down a strong foundation for the university’s health and medicine academic programs. THMU officially became Asia University in 2005, and it was quickly named as the best new university by the Ministry of Education. The following year, AU was approved to offer its first five PhD programs.
The university’s academic programs revolve around medicine, business and economics, computer and electronics, engineering, and liberal arts. By 2004, AU successfully became an international university, finally opening its doors to foreign students. Majority of the programs offered are postgraduate studies in the areas of health administration, psychology, biotechnology, computer science and information engineering, bioinformatics, and more. For undergraduate programs, AU offers finance and management studies to its international students. By recruiting international students, AU has established partnerships with the universities in nearby Asian countries, as well as in Europe and North America. Some of these universities are Stanford University and Texas Tech University in the United States, University of Bristol in the United Kingdom, and Yokohama National University in Japan, among others.
AU began to place emphasis on teaching and scientific research as it started to establish state-of-the-art facilities, such as the Big Data Center, 3D Printing Medical Research Institute, Food Safety and Inspection Center, and Center for Semantic Biomedical Computing. AU now also houses the AI Research Center, Center for Precision Medicine Research, Fintech Blockchain Center, and others. In order to promote the results of AU’s research efforts, the university collaborates with privately owned businesses. The majority of these collaborations are conducted through the Innovation and Incubation Center, the university’s research facility dedicated to supporting small businesses.
Having a strong external support system played a vital role in AU’s growth as a research-intensive university. Part of this support system are the Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health and Welfare, and other organizations that grant AU funds for its numerous research projects. All the effort and hard work came into fruition when recognitions started to pour in. Among these recognitions is being considered as one of Asia’s leading universities. AU has also won more than 100 gold medals from international invention fairs that the university actively participates in. The university is also a recipient of numerous Red Dot awards for excellence in teaching and research.Read Less...
