Facts About Radboud University, Nijmegen
Radboud University (RU) is a public Roman university based in the city of Nijmegen in the Netherlands. Named after Saint Radboud, the university is known for its high-quality research output and consistently ranks as one of the world's top universities.
RU currently offers over 250 bachelor's, master's, and doctorate programs, with English-taught bachelor's programs in fields such as behavioral and social sciences and business and economics. Through the Radboud Honours Academy, high-achieving students can also participate in the university's honours program, which provides advanced research opportunities, and work in specialized honors labs. RU students can also participate in a wide variety of opportunities for studying and doing research abroad.
RU has achieved recognition in the Netherlands as one of the best traditional, general universities in the country. Several of the university's master programs, such as Business and Law, Political Science, and Theology, have also been rated as the best in their field. The university's departments in physics, business, and law are also recognized as some of the best in the Netherlands.
Radboud University started out as the Katholieke Universiteit Nijmegen (Catholic University of Nijmegen), established in 1923 to serve as a stepping stone for disadvantaged Dutch Roman Catholics in the Netherlands. Though the university was successful in the beginning, it was hit hard by World War II, and classes resumed only in 1945. After the war, the university reopened its faculties and moved to a campus in the southern area of Nijmegen. It assumed its current name in 2004, and, as of 2020, is no longer considered a Roman Catholic university.
Today, Radboud University is focused on promoting cooperation between its disciplines and maintaining sustainability in its research and education. Top-quality research characterized by academic freedom also remains a priority for the university. Throughout its history, the university has been associated with numerous Nobel Prize and Spinoza Prize laureates, along with notable academics and former prime ministers of the Netherlands.
To further support high-level research, the university has established various institutes and facilities dedicated to diverse fields of study, including philosophy, management research, behavioral science, and language studies. The university's campus is also home to the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, the world's only psycholinguistics research institute.
The university also has several research institutes at its teaching hospital, the Radboud University Medical Center. The Radboud University Medical Center is also one of the largest hospitals in the Netherlands.Read Less...
