Facts About Athens University of Economics and Business

Founded in 1920, the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) is the oldest Greek university specializing in economics and business. The university is globally known as one of the best schools for business and econometrics. The university's MBA International Program has also ranked highly among MBA programs in Europe.

Though it started out offering only one academic program in economics and commerce, AUEB now offers a wide variety of bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs in fields such as business administration, accounting, economics, informatics, and statistics. The university also offers joint programs with various universities as well as non-degree courses in foreign languages and computer skills.

In addition to its undergraduate and graduate programs, AUEB has established a Teacher Education Program for providing additional training to prospective teachers. Students can also participate in the university's Erasmus+ Program, which offers courses in English for international students.

The Athens University of Economics and Business started out in 1920 as the Athens School of Commercial Studies, eventually being renamed the Athens School of Economics and Business in 1926. The school had been established as a response to economic and social changes taking place in Greece towards the end of the 19th century. In 1955, educational reforms in Greece led to the development of two separate degrees offered at the university: economics and business administration. By 1989, the university had assumed its current name, later expanding to include new departments for fields such as management science, marketing, and accounting.

In addition to academic programs in economics, business, and related fields, AUEB is also home to numerous research centers and laboratories. The university's Research Center was established in 1983 with the aim of supporting research activities in economics, management, and computing. Today, the university's laboratories specialize in fields such as international and European economic relations, economic growth and social policy, and socioeconomic and environmental sustainability.

Through its academic programs and research activities, AUEB aims to remain an internationally recognized institution of higher education in the fields of economics, management, and information technology. To this end, the university continues to focus on increasing the number and quality of its research programs while using advanced teaching methods and innovative modules to strengthen its academic programs.

To further support prospective students, the university also offers a number of scholarship programs, sponsored by private foundations and by the State Scholarships Foundation. Likewise, the university provides financial assistance to students through working scholarships.
