One of the largest universities in the USA, Ohio State University (OSU) is a public research university based in the city of Columbus, Ohio. Aside from the size of its student body and campus, OSU is known for its high research activity and its active participation in intercollegiate sports.

Ohio State University currently offers over 200 majors for its undergraduate and graduate programs, along with nearly 500 specializations. Popular majors at the university's Columbus campus include Biology, Finance, Psychology, and Marketing. The university's programs in healthcare management, nursing, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, and physical therapy have also ranked highly in national program rankings. OSU also offers two honors programs for high-achieving undergraduates in a wide variety of majors.

In addition to programs at its Columbus campus, OSU offers science and liberal arts programs at its regional campuses in the Ohio cities of Lima, Mansfield, Newark, Wooster, and Marion.

Ohio State University started out as the Ohio Agricultural and Mechanical College, a land-grant university established in 1870. As a land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant university, OSU's research activities cover a diverse range of areas, including sustainability, health and wellness, and food and agriculture.

Ohio State University is also home to more than 200 research centers and academic centers. These facilities include the Aeronautical/Astronautical Research Laboratory, the Center for Urban and Regional Analysis, and the Mershon Center for International Security Studies. The university also operates the Stone Laboratory on Gibraltar Island, the oldest freshwater field station in the USA.

Aside from its high research activity, OSU is also known for its strong athletic programs. The university has won national championships in a wide variety of sports, including wrestling, women's rowing, and men's volleyball. Many OSU alumni have also gone on to become Olympic medalists and notable sports figures, such as Jesse Owens, Ryan Kesler, Jessica Davenport, and Archie Griffin.
