Facts About Colorado State University

As a premier public research university, the Colorado State University (CSU) is classified as an R1: Doctoral University with very high research activity. Also known as Colorado State, it stands as the flagship higher education institution of the Colorado State University System. It was established in 1870 as a land-grant university to provide accessible practical education to the state.

Located in Fort, Collins Colorado, CSU’s main campus spans 583 acres. This includes a 101-acre veterinary teaching hospital. It also runs a 1,575-acre agricultural campus called the Foothills Campus and a 1,177-acre mountain campus called Pingree Park. Moreover, for its research centers and its Colorado State Forest Service stations, it employs 4,043 acres of land. These properties allow the University to house facilities and structures that provide high-quality education and research environment for its students and faculties.

Colorado State has over 150 programs offered in its eight colleges with 55 departments. In research, CSU is one of six universities designated as an Innovation and Economic Prosperity University. With a strong thrust in research, Colorado State’s strong research culture is manifested through sheer numbers, with more than 5,000 undergraduate students directly involved in research activities. As for research budget, the university clocked in more than $398.5 million in research expenditures in the fiscal year 2019 alone.

Colorado State also has a great athletics tradition and culture. Represented by the CSU Rams, which competes in the Mountain West Conference of the NCAA Division I. It also sponsors I FBS football. Since the forming of the Mountain West Conference in 1999, Colorado State has won nine tournament championships and has won or shared 11 titles during regular seasons.
