Dresden University of Technology is a public research university and one of the oldest universities in Germany. Also known as TU Dresden, this university belongs to the nine leading institutes of technology in the country. According to Times Higher Education World University Rankings, TU Dresden is among the top 160 universities in terms of research citations, based on teaching, research, industry income, and international outlook. When it comes to engineering and technology, TU Dresden is among the top 100 universities that offer these programs.

As a technological academic institution, TU Dresden offers several engineering programs, such as civil engineering, chemical engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, and mechanical and aerospace engineering. Business economics studies are available as well, such as economics and econometrics, business and management, and accounting and finance. TU Dresden was first called Saxon Technical School. It was not until 1961 that the institution was finally renamed to Technische Universität Dresden, or Dresden University of Technology.

Over the years, the institution began integrating with nearby colleges such as the College of Forestry, Dresden College of Engineering, the “Carl-Gustav Carus” Medical Academy, and the Friedrich List College of Transport. During the early ’90, TU Dresden added more faculties including law, information technology, economics, and education. TU Dresden also retained several of its original buildings, including the ones in the main campus, some of which date as far back as 1890 and covers three significant periods in the history—the reign of the German Empire, post-war, and the modern era.

As a center for research, TU Dresden is distinguished, having been awarded the Universities of Excellence in Germany and Europe. This award is granted to top universities in Germany for their cutting-edge research.
