Sustainable computing has been extended to become a key research area that covering the fields of computer science and engineering, electrical engineering and other engineering disciplines. Recently, we have been witnessing from adequate literature of sustainable computing that includes bio-energy efficiency, natural resources preservation and emphasize the role of ICT (information and communications technology) in achieving system design and operation objectives. The sustainable bio-energy impact/design of more efficient IT infrastructure is a key challenge for organizations to realize new intelligent computing paradigms.

On other hand, the uses of Computational Intelligence (CI) techniques for intelligent decision support that can be exploited to originate effectual computing systems. CI consists of various branches that are not limited to expert systems (ES), artificial neural networks (ANN), genetic algorithms (GA) and fuzzy logic (FL), Knowledge based Systems and various hybrid systems, which are combinations of two or more of the branches. The intention of this special issue is to explore sustainability problems in computing and information processing environments and technologies at the different levels of CI paradigms.  Moreover, this special issue is to address comprehensive nature of sustainable computing systems and to emphasize the character of CI in modeling, identification, optimization, prediction, forecasting, and control of complex bio-energy systems. In this special issue, we expect the novel work focused on addressing latest research, innovative ideas, challenges and CI solutions in sustainable computing for bio-energy system. Proposed submissions should be original, unpublished, and present novel in-depth fundamental research contributions either from a methodological/application perspective in accomplishing sustainable energy system for society.

Submission Details:

General information for submitting papers to SUSCOM can be found at  (please note the “Guide for Authors” link).  Submissions to this Special Issue (SI) should be made using Elsevier’s editorial system at the journal website (, under the “Submit Your Paper” link).  Please make sure to select the “SI: Bio Energy” option for the type of the paper during the submission process.  All submissions must be original and may not be under review by another publication.  A submission based on one or more papers that appeared elsewhere has to comprise major value-added extensions over what appeared previously (at least 30% new material). Authors are requested to attach to the submitted paper their relevant, previously published articles and a summary document explaining the enhancements made in the journal version. All submitted papers will be peer reviewed using the normal standards of SUSCOM.  By submitting a paper to this issue, the authors agree to referee one paper (if asked) within the time frame of the SI.
