Special Issue Call for Papers:

Scope: The sustainable agriculture ensures the food safety and security and textile needs for the current and future generations. The researchers and the practitioners of sustainable agriculture always strive to primarily integrate and incorporate a socially and economically healthy environment with secure economic profitability and equity in their work-related efforts. The food aspect of the sustainable agricultural system requires significant efforts and contribution from numerous domain experts and waste managers, food processors, consumers, distributors are just to name a few. The sustainable agriculture establishes and provides a solid foundation for the food safety and security, environmental quality. Also, it significantly contributes to the economic growth and development nationally and globally. The gradual technological advances and rapid evolution in information technology further contribute, support and strengthen the sustainability of agriculture. The incorporation, implementation and the usage of the Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) technologies have given the new paradigm shift in sustainable agriculture research, operations and practices. The RS technology generates the enormous amount of the geo-spatial (big) data, which when utilized by the GIS in association with other advanced computations, modeling and analytics techniques demystifies the hidden data patterns and produces the extraordinarily informative results and discoveries, which further aid the sustainable agriculture efforts.

The aim of this special issue (SI) is to present original research articles on all kinds of smart and effective computation techniques and technologies for the sustainable agriculture. In this SI, we seek original work focused on addressing new research and development challenges, developing effective techniques, advanced information technology and computation solutions for sustainable agriculture.

Specific topics include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Emerging trends in sustainable agriculture
  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning for sustainable agriculture
  • Modern GIS and remote sensing techniques in agriculture
  • Classification and change detection of cultivated land
  • Resource management and optimization for sustainable agriculture
  • Internet of Things for sustainable agriculture
  • Smart sensors, sensing mechanisms and platforms for sustainable agriculture
  • Green computing for sustainable agriculture
  • Green energy and systems for agriculture
  • Real time monitoring in smart agriculture
  • Growing trends of precision agriculture
  • Data mining and statistical issues in precision agriculture
  • Decision support systems for precision agriculture
  • Emerging tools and techniques for precision agriculture
  • Intelligent computational techniques in precision agriculture
  • Role of big data in sustainable agriculture
  • Big data innovation in sustainable agriculture
  • Environmental big data integration
  • Smart farm and its application in big data
  • Big data in agricultural disaster management
  • Cloud-enabled techniques and innovation for sustainable agriculture
  • Knowledge discovery in agriculture databases

Submission Details:

General information for submitting papers to SUSCOM can be found at http://www.journals.elsevier.com/sustainable-computing/ (please note the “Guide for Authors” link). Submissions to this Special Issue (SI) should be made using Elsevier’s editorial system at the journal website (http://www.journals.elsevier.com/sustainable-computing/, under the “Submit Your Paper” link). Please make sure to select the “SI: Sustainable Agriculture” option for the type of the paper during the submission process. All submissions must be original and may not be under review by another publication. A submission based on one or more papers that appeared elsewhere has to comprise major value-added extensions over what appeared previously (at least 30% new material). Authors are requested to attach to the submitted paper their relevant, previously published articles and a summary document explaining the enhancements made in the journal version. All submitted papers will be peer reviewed using the normal standards of SUSCOM. By submitting a paper to this issue, the authors agree to referee one paper (if asked) within the time frame of the SI.

Important Dates:

  • Manuscript due date: June 15, 2018
  • First decision notification: October 15, 2018
  • Tentative publication schedule: December 15, 2018
