Special Issue Call for Papers:


Global research focus is towards blending Industry 4.0 with Artificial Intelligence, to make the conventional systems smarter. The rush towards adoption of smart grid technologies is increasing. Advanced techniques are also emerging to control and monitor the grids more intelligently. Artificial Intelligence (AI), Industrial Internet of Things 4.0 (IIoT 4.0) and Learning techniques have seen fast evolution and growth in recent years to modernize systems. This will provide the electrical network to support new-generation energy management systems and fully renewable-based resources for zero emission. Adoption of AI, IIoT 4.0, and learning techniques help the grid for automation, health monitoring, fault-tolerance, self-recovery, efficient integration of renewable energy sources, efficient transmission, efficient distribution, and efficient demand response. Further, adoption of IIoT 4.0 becomes an important tool for Industrial Revolution 4.0. Recent research aims to focus on developing smart sensors using AI algorithms for large databases of grid parameters and renewables in common cloud platforms. Sustainable solutions which are of focus to AI and learning techniques will drive the smart grid to the next level, which gives rise to novel research and challenges with the realization of multi-domain influence and smarter solution for futuristic crises.

The aim of this special section is to bring out the research and insights of applications of AI and learning techniques to smart grid technologies. Also, the applications of Deep Learning, Machine Learning, Natural Learning Process (NLP), Advanced Optimization techniques, Cloud-based Computing, Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithms, and data analytics to smart grids are investigated. This special section will provide an insight into the board spectrum in ongoing research of future smart grids.

Submission Guidelines:

Unpublished manuscripts, or extended versions of papers presented at related conferences, are welcome. Submissions must not be currently under review for publication elsewhere. Conference papers may be submitted only if they are completely re-written or substantially extended (more than 50%), and must be referenced. All submitted papers will be peer-reviewed using the normal standards of CAEE. By submitting a paper to this issue, the authors agree to referee one paper (if asked) within the time frame of the special issue.

Biography: Sanjeevikumar Padmanaban (M’12–SM’15) received the bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Madras, Chennai, India, in 2002, the master’s degree (Hons.) in electrical engineering from Pondicherry University, Puducherry, India, in 2006, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Bologna, Bologna, Italy, in 2012. He was an Associate Professor with VIT University from 2012 to 2013. In 2013, he joined the National Institute of Technology, India, as a Faculty Member. In 2014, he was invited as a Visiting Researcher at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Qatar University, Doha, Qatar, funded by the Qatar National Research Foundation (Government of Qatar). He continued his research activities with the Dublin Institute of Technology, Dublin, Ireland, in 2014. He was an Associate Professor with the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, University of Johannesburg, Johannesburg, South Africa, from 2016 to 2018. Since 2018, he has been a Faculty Member with the Department of Energy Technology, Aalborg University, Esbjerg, Denmark. He has authored more than 350 plus scientific papers. S. Padmanaban was the recipient of the Best Paper cum Most Excellence Research Paper Award from IET-SEISCON’13, IET-CEAT’16, IEEE-EECSI’19, IEEE-CENCON’19 and five best paper awards from ETAEERE’16 sponsored Lecture Notes in Electrical Engineering, Springer book. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, India, the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers, India, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology, U.K. He is an Editor/Associate Editor/Editorial Board for refereed journals, in particular the IEEE SYSTEMS JOURNAL, IEEE ACCESS, IET Power Electronics, and Journal of Power Electronics (Korea), and the Subject Editor for the IET Renewable Power Generation, IET Generation, Transmission and Distribution, and FACTS journal (Canada).

Biography: Jens Bo Holm-Nielsen received his M.Sc. degree in Agricultural Systems, Crops & Soil Science, from KVL, Royal Veterinary & Agricultural University, Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1980 and Ph. D degree in Process Analytical Technologies for Biogas Systems, Aalborg University, Esbjerg, Denmark, in 2008. He is currently with the Department of Energy Technology, Aalborg University, Esbjerg, Denmark, and Head of the Esbjerg Energy Section. He is the Head of the research group at the Center for Bioenergy and Green Engineering established in 2009. He has vast experience in the field of biorefinery concepts and biogas production–anaerobic digestion. He has implemented projects of bioenergy systems in Denmark with provinces and European states. He was the Technical Advisor for many industries in this field. He has executed many large-scale European Union and United Nations projects in research aspects of bioenergy, biorefinery processes, and the full chain of biogas and green engineering. He has authored more than 300 scientific papers. His current research interests include renewable energy, sustainability, and green jobs for all. Dr. Holm-Nielsen was a member on invitation with various capacities in the committee for over 500 various international conferences and organizer of international conferences, workshops, and training programs in Europe, Central Asia, and China.

Prime Minister, Thailand, in an International Summit at (Bangkok) Thailand & Pride of Asia Research Excellence Award from Hon. Anant. V. Sheth, Deputy Speaker- Goa Legislative Assembly, Best Director Award. He received the “Active Member CSI National Award”. He was awarded the Prestigious Mahatma Gandhi Leadership Award by NRI WELFARE SOCIETY OF INDIA at House of Commons, British Parliament, London, UK. The book he authored on “Machine Learning and Deep Learning Algorithms using MATLAB and PYTHON” won “Best MATLAB Book For Beginners” Award by Book Authority. Dr.S. Balamurugan won the CSI Young IT Professional Award. He is also the recipient of the Best Researcher Award, Certificate of Exceptionalism, Young Scientist Award, Best Young Researcher Award and Outstanding Scientist Award. His biography is listed in “Marquis WHO’S WHO”, New Jersey, USA. His professional activities include roles as Editor-in-Chief/Associate Editor/ Editorial Board Member for more than 500+ International Journals/Conferences of high repute and impact.
