The socio-economic conditions of decision makers may play an important role in shaping their preferences, beliefs, and behaviour, as well as constraining their action set. At the same time, decisions taken in the context of poverty may by themselves dynamically contribute to shaping the economic prospects of decision makers. In honour of the recent Nobel Prize conferred to Abhijit Banerjee, Esther Duflo, and Michael Kremer, Theory and Decision will publish a special issue dedicated to the connection between decision-making and poverty.

Contributions should focus on empirical and/or theoretical investigations of the link between decision-making and poverty, broadly interpreted. Contributions linking individual decision making and randomised controlled trials are especially encouraged. While we expect a majority of the contributions to be focused on developing country contexts, contributions on poor subjects in middle income and rich countries will also be considered.

Submission of a manuscript implies: that the work described has not been published before; that it is not under consideration for publication anywhere else; that its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any, as well as by the responsible authorities – tacitly or explicitly – at the institute where the work has been carried out.

The publisher will not be held legally responsible should there be any claims for compensation.
