Special Issue Call for Papers:

Special Issue on Best Practices in Modeling and Simulation of Biological Systems

SCOPE AND OBJECTIVES
——————–
The multi-disciplinary field of systems biology is devoted to the study of the relationships between various parts of a biological system. In this context, given the high-throughput nature of current biological data, computational models play a vital role to better and holistically understand biological processes. Furthermore, to deal with the large and heterogenous number of computational tools already developed to support the multi-step processing pipeline and the multi-scale nature of biological complexity, standardized formats are required to improve tools cooperation and minimize data-translation errors.

In this Special Issue we welcome unpublished work pertaining to Systems Biology, Systems Medicine, and, in particular, to their underlying modeling formalisms and simulation software. We aim at the concept of \”Software supporting Life Scientists\”, which eventually results in the transition of research-oriented simulation software into the domain of Systems Biology and Systems Medicine.

TOPICS
——————–
This special issue seeks to provide an opportunity for researchers to present their original contributions on the problem of modeling complex biological systems. The special issue topics include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Analysis of metabolic, protein-protein interaction, regulatory, and signaling networks

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
———————-
Authors are invited to submit their manuscripts electronically adhering to the JOCS guidelines (https://www.elsevier.com/journals/journal-of-computational-science/1877-7503/guide-for-authors). Please submit your papers through the online system. When submitting your manuscript please select the article type \”SI: MODELING BIOLOGY\”. Please submit your manuscript before 30 11 2019. All submissions deemed suitable to be sent for peer review will be reviewed by at least two independent reviewers. Once your manuscript is accepted, it will go into production, and will be simultaneously published in the current regular issue and pulled into the online Special Issue. Articles from this Special Issue will appear in different regular issues of the journal, though they will be clearly marked and branded as Special Issue articles.

Inquiries, including questions about appropriate topics, may be sent electronically to the Guest Editors.
