Users are often not in control over their personal identifiable information (PII) and digital information is easy to be collected, analyzed and cloned. Hence, PII is subject to be shared without awareness. Lots of massive data breach events show that users\’ PII are often stored in plaintext and privacy issues have been the primary concern of users. Furthermore, in General Data Protection Regulation (DGPR), industries are required to protect users\’ PII and privacy. Compliance and regulations are driving us to develop new identity management systems. Blockchain is a decentralized, distributed and public digital ledger and can be used to record transactions among multiple parities. Hence, blockchain can be potentially used to manage users\’ PII in a decentralized way. However, how to enable users to store their PII on blockchain and use it without privacy breach is challenging. Furthermore, how to realize authentication and identification in decentralized systems is interesting.
The aim of this special issue is to promote research and reflect on authentication, identification and identity management in blockchain, with emphasis on the following aspects, but certainly not limited to:
Accountability in blockchain
Authentication in blockchain
Identity management in smart contract
Legal and regulation issues in blockchain
Privacy issues in blockchain
Succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs
This issue is an open special issue where everyone is encouraged to submit papers. We will solicit papers through two ways: conference and open call-for-papers.
1. Selected Papers from 18th The International Conference on Cryptology and Network Security (CANS 2019)
The International Conference on Cryptology and Network Security (CANS) is a recognized annual conference, focusing on all aspects of cryptology, data, network, and computer security, attracting cutting-edge results from world-renowned scientists in the area.
We plan to select the papers relevant to authentication, identification and identity management in blockchain from the accepted papers based on the reviews (comments and scores) and the presentations during the conferences. Each selected paper must be substantially extended, with at least 30% difference from its conference version.
2. Open Call-For-Papers
We also plan to publicize an open call-for-papers (CFP) by listing the CFP in major academic announcement mailing lists/websites and by sending the CFP to researchers in the areas around the world. We estimate there will be a number of submissions via the open call-for-papers. Then, we plan to select another a few papers from the submissions.
Each paper (including the selected papers from the conference) will go through a rigorous peer-review process by knowledgeable researchers. In total, we plan to include about 8-10 papers in this special issue. The acceptance rate will be fairly low but we regard quality as our top priority.
