Conference Call for Papers
ISWC 2018, the 22st annual International Symposium on Wearable Computers, is the premier forum for wearable computing and issues related to on-body and worn mobile technologies. ISWC brings together researchers, product vendors, fashion designers, textile manufacturers, users, and related professionals to share information and advances in wearable technology.
ISWC invites submissions on everything related to computing on the body, such as on-body sensing and sensor networks; wearables for professional use, mobile healthcare, or entertainment; wearability and interaction; and “on-the-go” uses of mobile devices and systems. ISWC looks for thorough research contributions as well as highly creative ideas.
Areas Of Interest Include (but are not limited to):
Submission should focus on research that deals with computing on the body, e.g.
Submissions are sought that describe innovations in wearables as collections of sensors, processing means (usually but not limited to smart phones), and I/O and/or combinations of systems.
Novel form factors, e-textiles, functional clothing
ISWC has a long standing history in publishing research that describes innovative form factors of wearables, along with latest trends in e-textiles and functional clothing. Authors are invited to submit groundbreaking research in this area to be considered for publication at ISWC.
Data Analytics for Wearables
A core concern of wearable computing is the analysis of sensor data. As such ISWC invites submissions that are concerned with the wider field of data analytics in wearable computing including but not limited to novel modeling and analysis techniques and its applications to wearable computing.
Wearables Applications and User Experiences
Traditionally Wearable computing has been very focussed on innovative applications and new user experiences. ISWC 2018 seeks exceptional contributions that introduce new application domains and novel ways of interacting with and through wearables.
Wearables and Society
With increased popularity and wide uptake of wearable computing comes great responsibility and new ethical questions to be addressed. Authors are invited to submit their manuscripts that focus on how wearables could be used for the public good, and on general issues around privacy and safety in the context of wearable computing.
Augmented, Virtual and Mixed Reality technologies are taking over the industry at a rapid pace. Wearable Reality invites contributions that look into this space with works covering hardware and software of the reality continuum. In addition, related technologies such as enhanced haptics and multimodal experiences that impact the wearable reality space are welcome.
All submissions are due at the date mentioned above. First notifications for all papers will be sent out after June 15, 2018. Papers that are rejected in round one might be invited for resubmission in revised form (“revise and resubmit”). These revisions are due July 20, 2018 at 11:59 HAST. Final notifications for invited revised papers will be sent out after August 1, 2018.
All papers are reviewed based on their scientific merit and contribution to the scientific progress in the domain of Wearable Computing. Scientific progress may be shown by e.g.
A novel sensing algorithm with thorough evaluation
A novel system approach build using a thorough methodology for formative design but no final evaluation
For short 2-page submissions: A highly creative new concept and built system that clearly states why it is game changing and what the contribution over the state of the art would be, without the need to describe methodology of formative design OR final evaluation. Systems need to be presented at the conference.
